Development of Cost Effective Handmade Carpets & Floor Coverings, Home Furnishings & Knitwears using Jute (Treated Woolenised or Untreated) & other natural fibers with value added Eco Friendly Finishes such as with Flame Retardancy, Mosquito Repellent, Anti-Bacterial /Antimicrobial Properties etc.

Objectives of the Proposal

• To develop woven/knitted fabrics (union blends or otherwise) using Jute (treated woolenised or untreated) with other natural fibers for home furnishings, handmade carpets and floor coverings.
• To impart value added multi-functional and ecofriendly finishing such as Flame Retardancy, Mosquito Repellence, and Anti-Bacterial/Antimicrobial Properties, etc on the developed product for Floor coverings, home furnishings & Knitwears application as per requirement.
• To study and evaluate the performance of the different developed products
• To study the techno commercial feasibility of the developed products

Progress of work :

• Four different types of special wool jute blend yarn developed at Navkar Woolen Mill, Bikaner
• Development of Hand Made Shaggy Carpets from Wool/Jute yarn at VC Vishal Carpets, Bhadohi
• Development of Home Furnishing Fabrics are ongoing from Jute in blends with the Other Natural Fibers Yarn at M/s SV Textiles, Bhiwandi
• Bulk Scale Trials of Woolenization, Bleaching and softening of Jute fibre at Vishal Carpets, Bhadohi
• Development of Home Furnishing Fabrics are ongoing at M/s Maa Sipra Creation, Ranaghat, West Bengal
• Development of Hand Tufted/Knotted Carpets from Wool/Jute yarn at VC Vishal Carpets, Bhadohi
• Development of hand-woven carpet -shaggy rugs at Lucky Export, Bhadohi
• Development of Jute/Cotton core sheath Dref yarn
• Development of Eco-Friendly Finishes such as with Mosquito Repellent, Anti-Bacterial /Antimicrobial Properties, Flame Retardancy
• Completed microencapsulation trials for 11 types of essential oils includes Citronella Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Lemongrass Oil, Cedar wood Oil, Basil Oil, Eucalyptus Citodora Oils, Lavandin Oil Grasso, Spearmint Oil, Clove Oil, Thyme Oil & Peppermint Oil.
• Application of developed microencapsulated moth repellency agent on the fabrics
• Development of knitted products using Dref yarn (50/50) wool/woolenized jute blends
• Mosquito repellent Finish using herbal microencapsulated oil on Jute cotton fabric & its testing
• Development of Eco-friendly Flame Retardant Finished Jute /Cotton (43/57) Based Curtain
• Antimicrobial Finish using herbal microencapsulated oil on Jute cotton fabric & its testing
• Development of Jute/Wool Blended (20/80, 30/70, 40/60, 50/50) Hand Tufted and Hand Knotted carpets at Carpet Kart, Bhadohi
• Developed Hand tufted and hand knotted of different blend of wool/jute at RR Rugs, Bhadohi
• Developed Handmade wall hangings of different blend of wool/jute at RR Rugs, Bhadohi
• Development of Jute /Wool/ Mohair-based carpets (Logo Design) at RR Rugs, Bhadohi
• Testing of FTIR test results for treated FR and non-treated Home Furnishing fabrics
• Development of Jute /Wool-based apparel wear at Shingora Textile Pvt. Ltd, Ludhiana
• Development of 100% Jute and Jute/Cotton blended Cushion Covers and Curtains.
