National Technical Textile Mission
Sustainable Solutions for Packaging of Agro Products
Development of eco-friendly natural fibres based sustainable
agro-textiles for packaging of agro products with protection against
rodents, microorganisms including bacteria, fungi and viruses and UV
repellent properties.
Objectives of the Project
i. To develop eco-friendly natural fibres based sustainable
agro-packaging material for agro-products using warp knitted
technology.
ii. To develop elastic as well as non-elastic nets for agro
products
iii. Synthesis and application of microencapsulated finishes for rodent
repellence, anti microbial/anti-bacterial, UV repellent finish on the
developed nets for better durability.
iv. To validate the performance of developed fabric as per International
and National Standards.
v. To conduct Field Trials of the developed natural fibre based agro
packaging products & nets for the crops in different Agro-climatic
zones.

Developed Pest-Repellent Finish formulation
The formulation is a non-hazardous, non-toxic and non-metallic that has a
pungent odour and foul taste. The chemicals invoke behaviour modification
against targeted species and avert the pests away from the product without
causing any harm. This liquid formulation is free for application on all textile
material. Concentrated bitter and pungent additive comprising aqueous acrylate
medium with ant, cockroach, fleas, ticks, mites and rodent-repelling properties
Developed Antimicrobial and Anti-viral finishing agent
A potent and safe antimicrobial and anti-viral finishing agent based on active
elemental copper. It is specialty formulated for padding application for all
textiles. It is based on age old copper antimicrobial chemistry and deactivates
bacteria, viruses, fungi and algae
Developed Anti-microbial and Pesticidal Formulation
A non-toxic, non -hazardous natural ingredient that has been dispersed in an
acrylate solvent and made super stable using a unique concoction. The resulting
emulsion can find use as a safe, sustainable, anti-microbial, pesticidal, and
insecticidal preparation
