Innovative Denims from Wool and Special Blends
Innovative Denims from Wool and Special Wool blends
Design & Development of Wool (Special fibres & blends) based Novel Denim Fabric with Multifunctional
Properties such as Moisture Management, Anti- microbial etc. using Eco-friendly finishing
techniques.
Objectives of the Proposal
- To produce Wool (Special fibres & blends) Novel Denim fabric by utilizing pure wool and
special yarns
- To impart suitable finishing treatment such as Moisture management, anti- microbial etc.
using eco-friendly finishing techniques.
- To evaluate the performance of the developed denim fabric.
Progress of the Project

- Chitosan based anti-shrinkage trials completed.
- Nacl-Kmo4 based anti-shrinkage trials ongoing
- BAP (Bisulphite adduct of polyisocyanate polyurethane anionic) trials are ongoing.
- Antimicrobial & Moisture management trials are ongoing.
- Treatment of wool yarn with potassium permanganate in saturated sodium chloride solution
(Nacl-KMN04) treatment at various temp, conc and time combinations.
- Application of chitosan by varying different finishing parameters eg. PH, Temp, time to
get
optimum shrink resistance.
- Currently, trials are being conducted for shrink proofing of wool utilizing,
eco-friendly L-
cysteine and proteas 16L as well as using UV radiation and a biopolymer.
